Updates and Testimonies
hey, God is good!
Such a fun experience getting to film with my brother, to share our story, glorify God and honor Olive Crest for stepping in as the hands and feet of Jesus. Enjoy!
This day was one of the most special days I’ve experienced in my life. It’s hard to find the words to express the gratitude flowing from my heart this evening, it’s keeping me awake as I thank God for a day saturated in such redemption and love.
My beloved Samuel.
My sweet mom.
My precious dad.
Such life-giving connection. God’s hand orchestrated this day, my mom's birthday, with such grace and I’m undone by His kindness.
My upbringing was filled with pain and difficulty. Both my parents struggled with addictions that nearly took their lives and I felt like the love that flooded the room today opened my eyes to the bigness and greatness of our God. His unfathomable love. For me. For my mom and dad. This day was a such sweet miracle.
After getting engaged to Samuel and beginning to dream of the beauty of our wedding day, questions in my heart arose silently. About family, what all this should look like. All the foster families that stepped in to love my brother and I will no doubt be there, but my heart longed to see my mom and dad honored and celebrated with me on that day.
After being unsure about where my dad is for over years, I got a call in response to a missing persons report that my mom filed.. I got the call 2 days after Samuel and I got engaged.
"Is this Helen Wright?"
"Hi Helen. We heard you are looking for your father. We have him here, he is safe and doing okay. Would you like to see him?"
Floods of emotions hit. Such relief, such joy, such fear.
I took a few days to process when to see him.
-- Recently my relationship with my mom has been completely transformed and redeemed. A standard of love has been restored and God has brought such incredible healing where there was once disconnection and hurt. Samuel and I decided we were going to celebrate my mom on her birthday and take her wherever her heart desired. "Knotts Berry farm, a nice place to eat, wherever you want mama" -- I was just humbled and undone by her response, "Sweetheart, lets just spend my birthday going to see your dad."
I've never known my dad all that well. My mom struggled to raise my brother and I alone. Every few years we'd get a call or card, but no genuine connection and relationship. My mom was left to do all the work alone, and her heart was left with deep scars from my dad.
The forgiveness, selflessness and genuine care my mom had for my dad after all these years moved my heart deeply.
Most of my life we didn't know where he was.
At seasons he was homeless and sick.
Discovering he was alive was a miracle in itself, but my heart was no prepared for the reconciliation I witnessed on this day.
After years and years of being apart, my dad looked my mom in the eyes and spoke words of healing and love. My mom sat beside his sick and half-paralyzed body, feeding him, laughing with him and telling him, "It's ok Michael, your family is here now, we love you. It's all ok now."
I was undone by the selfless love pouring out of my mom's heart.
Samuel and I sat back in awe.
All those years of misjudgments in my heart against my mom for hurt caused me, and this moment corrected my every judgment. The Holy Spirit came into the room and you could feel the pleasure of the Lord releasing healing and reconciliation like only God can.
Samuel and I told my dad we were getting married. He was beaming with joy, he always wanted a son. My dad is almost blind, so he drew Samuel close to his face to see him, and began speaking love and life, approval and kindness over Samuel. "You are a great son, and I love you." Samuel spoke words of life and love over my dad and you could feel the love of God tangibly in the room.
We laughed, I held back the tears and just stood in awe of the miracle of the moment, only my loving God could have orchestrated. Although the enemy's fingerprints were all over our family being broken apart, I could see God's fingerprints all over this moment of reconciliation and love. Thank you King Jesus for this sweet, unforgettable moment.
What a full and sweet season.
Upon returning to Southern California, Samuel (whom I had dated for a year prior to going on my adventure to Redding) and I reconnected to discover God had purpose for our time apart -- God had healed and matured both of us. Letting each other go and grow for that year was just the surrender God was needing to heal our hearts and prepare us for a healthy and God-cenetered relationship.
After 6 months of reconnecting it was made clear to us both that God has such great purposes for our lives together. On New Years Eve Samuel surprised me in Redding CA with the sweetest proposal. Thank you to our amazing friends Austin and Katie for making it such a special moment and surprise.
We are so excited for the adventure we have ahead and I am so grateful to invite you guys along for the journey as Samuel and I learn to put Jesus first in our lives and relationship.
Although this website is specifically for a small number invited to the wedding, I invite you to see the beauty at the link under our story:
Samuel, who grew up in Illinois, came to California after high school and encountered the Love of Jesus that forever changed his life. He whole-heartily surrendered His life to Jesus and began pursuing a life of deep connection to God and found His church family at Heritage Christian Fellowship.
Helen, who grew up in Southern California, devoted her life to Jesus in High School and lived with many families where she learned from each about the heart of God, and chose to pursue Him with her whole heart and life. After high school she found Her church family at Heritage Christian Fellowship.
Both having a deep love for God, love for people and passion for God's Word, they both began serving in the youth ministry. Their friendship grew over time and in 2015 they were assigned to teach the same youth Sunday school class and within months Samuel was pursuing Helen.
They were together for a year and spent a year apart growing and seeking God's purpose for their lives while Helen attending Bible College in Northern California. Upon her return to Southern California in 2017 they reconnected at church and the rest is history!
Their love for each other and love for the Lord is the driving force of their relationship and together they are mission minded and in unity in their desire to advance God's Kingdom and carry God's love and hope to those in need. "
All glory and thanks to our King Jesus!
I was asked to share my story on a TBN program called “The Crew” which airs on the JUCE Television Network to encourage youth across the country. Such a sweet experience!
My Message to them:
My message to them is, wherever you are, whatever you are going through, you can overcome.
in John 16:33 Jesus encourages us, "..in Me you may have peace. In this world you will face trails and difficulty, but take heart -- be encouraged! -- I have overcome the world"
As we seek and pursue a true relationship with God, we are set free from the brokenness of our past, and can embrace our stories to bring hope to those hopeless.
"They overcame the enemy by the blood of the lamb and the word of their testimony!"
Your story is powerful. It carries breakthrough to overcome what the enemy is doing in someones life. It carries hope that can change a life forever.
Jesus overcame it all.
In Christ we have too.
King Jesus, We look to YOU.
We thank you for your relentless pursuit of us. The love of the Father revealed on the cross.
We choose to shift our focus from what the enemy is doing to what you have done.
We no longer want to be bound by the shame of our past or the fear of the future.
We choose to draw near to you and ask that your love flood our hearts.
We love you, Lord! In your name, amen.
With two more weeks of school I am back in Redding soaking up all I can before graduation -- this is an update and testimony of going out on the streets with some pizza and surrendered willingness to love the person the Lord lead us to. -- In-Depth South Africa update coming!
Quick Life Update!
My heart is overwhelmed with gratitude as I take the morning to reflect, spend time with the Lord and look ahead with great joy and expectancy.
I can’t thank you enough for investing into me, believing in me and helping send me to Redding. My studies at Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry have been so life-giving and foundational for the ministry God is calling me to. I am in process of hearing His voice on vision for my life, and will share as things become more clear!
I really wanted to take a moment to update everyone who helped send me here, on my journey. My heart is constantly overflowing with gratitude as I go through my days amazed that I have this opportunity to study, be poured into and empowered into all God has created me for. I want you to know how deeply grateful I am that you’ve chosen to invest into me. I’ve devoted my life to advancing God’s kingdom and seeing His children encounter His love. This update is just me inviting you into my journey, that would have not been possible without your love and support, so thank you so much. I’m going to break my update up and try and keep it short :)
Living - In January I returned here to Redding with my entire life packed away I storage and found out the home I was going to move into had fallen through in the escrow process. God miraculously showed up and an Australian family quickly welcomed me into their home for the last 2 months. We had family dinners every night, game nights and I was able to just stand in awe of the love in their family and their pure, joyful devotion to Jesus. My time there will forever be an investment into future marriage and I am so grateful for the setback in the escrow process now! I am currently sitting on my bed in my own room! I am living with Mama Judy, Catherine and Krista! Judy is in my Revival Group and is the southern mama I’ve always wanted! Catherine and Krista have quickly become some of the sweetest gifts of friendship in my life. My time in this home has already brought so much healing and I am grateful to be here longterm through next year while I attend 2nd year!
Work - I have been using my degree and teaching permit 3 teaching preschool at an Elementary School. I love being on school campuses partnering with God’s heart for each student as I meet them. I work in the mornings and go directly to school afterwards, getting home just in time for dinner. I am also working in the Bethel Sunday school classes all day Sundays, so my only day for rest is Saturday. I hope to spend the summer working and putting into motion some creative projects to raise support for next year so I can better focus on my studies. But in the mean time, I am loving every moment of being surrounded by little ones!
Health - Emotional and physical. I will keep this short, but I have spend so much of this year receiving deep emotional healing the more I open my heart to God’s love and surrender my will to His. I am learning to establish a healthy life-rhythm and take good care of my health so I am able and effective in outreach and ministry I am involved in. Exercising, eating right and sleeping enough, while knowing I absolutely need emotional space to process and meet with God. When I prioritize time to spend with the Lord, heart to heart, then ministry is done out of the overflow of my time with Him. It is much healthier that way! ha!
School - Studies have included daily bible reading, Church history, studying the greek and hebrew etc. — here is a quick list of the books we’re read so far:
Ministry / Outreach - I could write a full post alone willed with all the testimonies coming from my times in outreach! I feel so honored getting to partner with God in revealing His love to so many people.
Friendships - God is surrounding me with sisters that love me, believe in me and champion me on to be all God’s created me to be, and it is truly unlike anything I’ve ever known. I have experienced deep inner healing through the friendships God has given me up here, and I sense it is only just the beginning. I will be highlighting these sweet friendships in the “Celebrate” section of my blog, so you can meet them one by one over time :)
MISSION TRIP - March 29-April 12! Jesus is invading South Africa with His life-giving love! The dumps, the schools, the brothels, the prisons, the churches and the streets are going to encounter the love of God and hear the good news of God coming to earth and destroying the works of the devil on the cross. I am just so expectant for all He will do on this trip! Please pray!
Looking Ahead - I have just been released with the peace and joy to apply for 2nd year at BSSM and am very hopeful this net year will be filled with more breakthrough than ever before. I will come home to celebrate my little brother’s high school graduation, spend time with family, and serve at a foster kids camp (my 5th year with them) — I will work through the summer teaching preschool and launching some creative projects to raise funds for my tuition and living for next year. I also hope to free up some time to pursue more writing, as I have dreams and prjects in my heart that will be resources to encourage, equip and release hope into the lives of youth all over! Many exciting things to come!
I can’t thank you enough for believing in me, and choosing to invest in me. There is no way I would be here without you love and support, and I just can’t thank you enough.
Keep me in your prayers as I press forward into advancing God’s kingdom. The enemy is not a big fan of me and all the prayers you send up are just another punch to his big ugly face! ;) I love you all so much and hope to hug you soon.
You can also shuffle through my video updates and there will be more to come. (Also, a fun side-note — I have had youth from all over begin contacting me saying how encouraged they are by my testimony and video updates on YouTube! Such a tool for releasing hope and truth to youth I will never get to meet face-to-face)
Sending all my love and gratitude!
Thank you so much for supporting me and loving me so well and consistently!
:) Helen Rose Wright
A major difficulty i've continuously battled in my journey, that I've rarely shared about, is anxiety. This is an encouragement from december that invites you into a glimpse of my process of battling and overcoming anxiety, hoping to encourage anyone feeling hopeless in their fight against it. There is so much hope and freedom available in Christ!
Feel free to pass this encouragement onto anyone hopeless in their battle against anxiety. Sometimes it is as simple as needing more sleep or a healthier meal. It will pass.
“You will surely forget your trouble, recalling it only as waters gone by” Job 11:16
There is so much hope.
I recorded this and was going to share this earlier this week, but here it is now! Sorry for the video ending so abruptly, I had to move my car from getting hit, ha!
I was finishing saying that I believe San Clemente is a city where the students that leave there will be sent out to influence different areas of culture and change the world for the better. No more suicides or overdoses coming from our city any longer. Love you, San Clemente. God has far greater purposes for you.
Forgive me for the way delayed update. I sit here overwhelmed with the testimonies and breakthroughs I could share with you. I now see that the past few years of healing, enduring faith, finishing school (carrying the cross of 4 college math classes haha), ministry to youth in San Clemente and just being faithful in the little things, have prepared me for the fulfilled promises I stand in the midst of. And I am just wrecked by the goodness of God. God has so kindly and sweetly set me up for success here in Redding. I have received more inner healing and accessed more intimacy in my relationship with Jesus, than in any other season of my life. And it just increases more everyday. I really can’t thank you enough for believing in me, sowing into my life and cheering me on as I run after God’s heart and His purposes for my life. Without your constant love, support and prayers I am so certain I wouldn’t be sitting here making history with God and seeing His love impact and transform so many lives. And the most beautiful and praise-worthy part of it all, is this is JUST the beginning!
Since my last update I have had many changes. I moved my life into storage and was given the sweetest gift of temporarily staying with a beautiful and powerful family from Australia. Jo and Conrad have given me such a beautiful example of a healthy marriage fully focused on Jesus. Their two young daughters have quickly become little sisters to me, if not best friends. I have experienced such healing just doing life with them. At the end of February I get the privilege of moving in with Judy, who has a story of overcoming that would give hope to the most hopeless of men! She is such a mighty woman of God and the southern mama Jesus knows I needed! She is buying a house and I will be renting a room from her long-term, as I sense the Lord leading me to stay in Redding at least another year through Second Year.
In the midst of shifting living situations, God has also been stretching and growing my faith when it comes to finances. I first moved here and had saved enough money to enjoy the first few months of school without tension, and even then He blessed me with the most beautiful Nanny position caring for two 3 year old girls in the foster care system. I have written about my season with them on my blog before. When that job ended, as the girls were placed back with their birth mom, thank you Jesus, God showed off His faithfulness big time.
I was teaching a leadership class to high school students at the local YMCA for my city service and the same week my job ended with the sweet little ladies, I ended up casually chatting with a woman on staff at the Y. She sent my name and contact to her boss and within days I was being offered a job as a substitute pre school teacher ( the YMCA owns and runs 4 local preschools ) and as a camp director for a foster kid camp in the summer! I was undone by the goodness of God, His timing and the door He was opening. I began working as soon as I arrived back home from Christmas break. My first substitute teaching job fell in love with me and the pre school director requested to keep me on longterm. Since that day, I have been able to apply all the Child Development I learned in College with all the Kingdom advancing truths I’m learning here at Bethel, and see a classroom of little ones thrive. My lead teacher Miss Belva is one of the most incredible women I have come to know. Despite her struggles as a single mom with many setbacks, she has easily displayed to me an example of patients and unconditional love like I have rarely seen in my life. It has been an honor to assist her and learn to release the kingdom in this classroom of little ones. God is teaching me so much in this classroom. I am beginning to see how He has a call and destiny on lives from day one, and at 3 years old, personalities and callings are being formed by God. Its the most beautiful journey to be apart of with the Lord.
In addition to my morning pre school teaching job, God somehow moved my name to the top of the list for a job teaching Sunday school with Bethel Church! I am in the process of getting on staff and learning from them, hands-on, how to empower and activate little children for advancing the Kingdom and truly knowing God. They say, there is no jr. Holy Spirit, and these kids have the same access to god’s heart and Kingdom as we do! I am so excited to merge my college studies of child development, with Kingdom advancing, empowering truths I will learn in this job. While I have a special love for little children, my heart burns to see the youth of America captivated and transformed by the love of Jesus. Specifically youth that grew up in brokenness and darkness as I had known. And guyyyyys.. you wouldn't believe the strings God has pulled to give me that deep desire of my heart.
Like I mentioned above, God used my city service to connect me to my new job at the YMCA. I was teaching a life-skills, leadership class to high school students and loved so much my team and the few students faithfully coming. I had every intention of staying on that team, loving well the same 4-6 students that came, but God had other plans!
I was sitting in my second Missions Trip meeting as my trip leader, Aneglo, was giving a message. From day 1 I felt so honored to be on a team where He was leading as He is a man of faith that walks fearlessly in passion for Jesus through evangelism. He is actually the outreach coordinator for my school and oversees over 100 different city service teams! God has entrusted this man with a heavy load because He is faithful! While He was speaking, he scanned the room and noticed my name tag. He stops his message and says, “HELEN WRIGHT?! Are you the same Helen Wright from Matt Coils Revival Group?” I’m pretty shocked and with the whole room staring at me, I say yes. He gets all excited and tells me God has an assignment for me and he is going to move me from my city service to send me into the schools!!! He says, “Talk with me after!!” and continues his message. Goodness guys, I felt so highlighted and loved. I felt the pleasure of the Lord confirm to me that this is the moment I’d been praying for! All my time in San Clemente, teaching art on all 3 of the middle school campuses, speaking to the freshman class at SCHS every year, getting invited on other campuses, the dream in my heart about launching christian clubs on campuses, and God had brought me to that unexpected moment. I was connected with a ministry called “One Voice Student Missions” going to trainings in SoCal for months, hoping and praying God would release me to launch a “One Voice Jesus Club” in San Clemente, but He kept saying “wait.”
My first meeting with the Jesus Club team was like something out of a movie for me. I came to find out that Aneglo is partnering with Brian Barcelona who is the founder and head of One Voice Student Missions! The ministry my heart was burning for all these years back at home. The mission my heart was dreaming of being launched into. And there I sat, being asked to share my story with the team and being honored as one called and chosen by God to be there.
Our first club launch was last week and there are no words to express the power and love of God that showed up. We had almost 70 students in a room that could fit about 40 and students were spilling in from the hallways the entire time. Tomorrow is our 2nd club and Aneglo has given me the privilege to share my story to the students. I really cant put into words the fulfilled promises and visions I stand in the midst of. My heart is so full and expectance so great. Bethel church has been praying into and holding onto a promise from God about raising up a 15,000 person army in Redding. There are about 15,000 youth in Redding and it is believed this move of God in the youth in starting at Central Valley, the most at-rick, unlikely to success campus in Redding. God loves choosing those the world wouldn't to accomplish his purposes. Like King David. Like Queen Esther. And goodness gracious, I am feeling His pleasuring smiling upon me saying, “You got this babe. I’ve chosen you for such a time as this.” So tomorrow I march onto that campus motived and empowered by the purest and most powerful love. The presence of Love himself will be at my side as I proclaim of all the Lord has done to set me free and breath purpose into my life. And The goal is to sow seeds of hope onto every weary and hopeless heart in the room.
The best is yet to come!
Well, this was just a poorly filmed Facebook live video testimony that ended up encouraging a ton of people to be unafraid in sharing their faith. I hope it can encourage you as well! :)
Sharing glimpses into my process in Redding at BSSM as I discover fully what the Lord has called me to.. Youth outreach in the schools, city service project update, life-giving community..Very exciting time! Thanks for joining me in the journey!
Link to help send me to South Africa! :)
