Now this is such a beautiful, feel-good testimony. This past Sunday I decided I was going to go to another church for first service..I know I sensed the Lord's leading to go to this specific church, but I was still pretty oblivious to His hand upon the day.
When arriving, knowing pretty much no one, I say hello to a few new faces and proceed to inhale some chocolate muffins -- a beautiful little girls comes up alongside me to join in the Sunday morning sugar feast, and something in my spirit told me she was very special. Now, I love kids and usually when I'm around them I end up talking to them and loving on them, but this little encounter felt different.
I briefly met who looked to be her parents and went into the service to worship. I poured out my love to the Lord through praise but felt Him nudge me to stop and do something else. I looked
To my right and the church had set up a "prophetic art area" fully loaded with paints, paper and inspiration..and this sweet little 6 year old! I transitioned my worship to this art area, grabbed a paper and began pondering what medium to use. I hear a tiny sweet voice say, "you can use my markers if you want!" So I joyfully accepted and began drawing whatever came to me.
About 2 minutes passed and this little voice taps me on the arms and says with the biggest smile, "Awh I just love this church! There is so much love here! You can feel it right?!" I laughed and agreed. This led us into conversations about God's love, the beauty of His family and how much He loves each one of us..as I am ministering to this sweet baby girl and agreeing with all she is saying, I am interrupted by one of my mentors (the reason I knew of this church) and she wispers in my ear, bursting with joy, "Helen Rose..you won't be believe this...this little girl is a foster child that was just taken in by a family in our church!"
My heart sank and eye filled with tears. --if you know me or my story at all, you know why this would impact my heart so quickly-- I grew up in and out of foster care and the highest calling on my life is to love and sow seeds of hope in the lives of at-risk youth, just like this sweet little girl.
When Vicki left, this little one asked me, "who was that?" I said, "I guess you could say she's kind of a foster-mom to me!" The unexplainable joy and relief this little girl felt poured right through her smile, "HELEN! I AM A FOSTER CHILD TOO! Those are my foster parents over there!" She was flooded with excitement over this dysfunctional common ground we discovered haha but the Lord used this moment so mightily to build up this little girl, but also to build me up and encourage my heart.. a very loud, clear and sweet confirmation to what He's called me to.
We shared about the different homes we've been placed in while acknowledge God went with us wherever we were placed. When it came to talking about our parents, we stopped, held each others hands and prayed for each other's biological moms by name.
I was able to bless this little soul with the gift of creativity God is cultivating in me through a little creation and I got to connect with her beautiful foster family. Her foster mom joined us in the healing moment to share that SHE TOO had grown up in foster care. The Father's love was being poured out on all of us as we talked and shared. The healing and confirmation of that moment can't be expressed in words, but it is a beautiful display of the sweet ways the Lord speaks.
